Day 1: Arrival & Bujumbura City Tour

After breakfast, meet your safari guide and begin your adventure in Bujumbura, the capital city of Burundi. Visit key highlights including:

The Livingstone–Stanley Monument, marking where the two explorers met.
Independence Monument and Central Market for local crafts and culture.
Relax by Lake Tanganyika, the world’s second deepest freshwater lake, and enjoy a sunset view.

Day 2: Rusizi National Park – Gitega

After an early breakfast, drive to Rusizi National Park, famous for hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, and a variety of birds along the Rusizi River. Enjoy a boat safari to get closer to the wildlife and beautiful scenery.

After lunch, transfer to Gitega, the cultural heart of Burundi and the country’s second-largest city. Visit the Gitega National Museum, home to ancient royal artifacts and traditional crafts.

Day 3: Gishora Drum Sanctuary & Return to Bujumbura

After breakfast, visit the Gishora Drum Sanctuary, a UNESCO-recognized site known for the legendary Burundi Royal Drummers. Learn about the kingdom’s history and enjoy a live drumming performance — a vibrant display of Burundi’s heritage.

After lunch, drive back to Bujumbura for drop-off at your hotel or airport for departure.

Travel in a 4×4 safari vehicle with pop-up roof, guided by an English-speaking professional driver.

Trekking Notes

Gorilla & chimpanzee permits included (UWA-issued).
Treks last 2–6 hours, depending on primate location.
Fitness level: moderate, with some uphill forest trekking.

Best Time to Visit
Dry seasons (June–September & December–February) are best for trekking, but safaris run year-round.

Hiking boots, rain jacket, long trousers, insect repellent, gloves, and a reusable water bottle.
