2-Day Gorilla Trekking Safari in Uganda from Kigali

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Kigali. After a short briefing, you’ll set off on a scenic drive through Rwanda’s beautiful rolling hills toward the Uganda border. The journey offers stunning views of terraced farmland, small villages, and the dramatic landscapes that make this region known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”

You’ll cross into Uganda through the Cyanika or Katuna border post before continuing to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its ancient rainforest and mountain gorillas. Depending on the trekking sector, the drive takes about 4–5 hours.

Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon, where you’ll relax and enjoy views of the forested hills surrounding Bwindi. In the evening, your guide will brief you about the gorilla trekking experience and prepare you for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Return to Kigali

After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for registration and a briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You will then begin your gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, hiking through dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family.

The trek can take anywhere from one to several hours depending on the location of the gorillas, but the reward is unforgettable. Once you find the gorilla family, you will spend one magical hour observing them as they feed, groom, and interact in their natural habitat.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch before starting the scenic drive back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or evening where the safari ends.
