6 Day Gorilla Trekking Safari from Kigali – Bwindi Gorilla Safari & Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari

Day 1: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Your safari begins in Kigali after breakfast at around 8:00 AM. Our professional safari driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel and begin with a visit to the moving Kigali Genocide Memorial, one of the most important historical sites in Rwanda.

After the visit, begin your scenic journey toward Queen Elizabeth National Park in southwestern Uganda. The drive passes through rural communities, cultivated farmland, and beautiful rolling hills before reaching the green tea plantations that stretch along the escarpment overlooking the park.

Lunch will be served either along the way or at the lodge depending on arrival time. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and spend the evening relaxing while enjoying the surrounding wilderness.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Safari

Start your day with an early breakfast before heading out for a morning game drive at 7:00 AM inside Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The park is famous for its diverse wildlife and open savannah landscapes. During the safari drive you may encounter elephants, buffaloes, lions, antelopes, and several other mammals such as giant forest hogs, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, hyenas, and waterbucks.

In the afternoon, enjoy one of the highlights of the park — a boat cruise along the famous Kazinga Channel. This natural waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George hosts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.

You will likely see large numbers of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and buffalo gathering along the shores. The channel is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with many water birds and occasionally the rare Shoebill.

Later in the evening, enjoy a short sunset game drive before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After an early breakfast, depart around 6:00 AM for chimpanzee tracking in Kalinzu Forest Reserve.

Accompanied by experienced guides, you will trek through the tropical forest searching for chimpanzees — our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. Watching these intelligent primates as they swing through trees, groom each other, and communicate in the wild is a fascinating experience.​

After the trek, continue your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of Africa’s most biologically diverse rainforests and home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.

Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon where you can relax and prepare for the unforgettable gorilla trekking experience the following day.​

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, your guide will take you to the park headquarters for registration and briefing before starting your gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Accompanied by experienced trackers and armed rangers, you will hike through dense forest terrain in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek may take 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ movements and your trekking pace.

Once you find the gorillas, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them as they interact, feed, and care for their young in their natural habitat.

After the trek, drive to Lake Bunyonyi, often considered one of Africa’s most beautiful lakes. With its terraced hills and numerous small islands, the lake provides a peaceful setting for relaxation after trekking.

Day 5: Lake Bunyonyi Cultural Experience & Boat Ride

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before starting a cultural exploration around the shores of Lake Bunyonyi.

You will visit nearby communities and villages where local people farm the terraced hillsides and trade in the markets around the lake. This walk offers insight into traditional lifestyles in southwestern Uganda.

Return to the lodge for lunch and later enjoy a scenic boat cruise across the lake, passing several small islands while observing birdlife and capturing stunning photographs of the surrounding landscapes.

Spend the evening relaxing by the lakeshore before dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Return to Kigali – End of Safari

After breakfast at around 8:00 AM, depart for Kigali with scenic views along the journey.

Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be dropped off at your hotel or preferred location.

End of the 6-day Uganda primate and wildlife safari.
