6 Day Budget Safari in Uganda - Gorillas & Chimpanzees Trekking

Day 1: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast at 8:00 AM, our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala and transfer you to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Along the way, make a stop for photos at the Equator Line. Continue through local villages and lush green tea estates before reaching the escarpment with magnificent views over the park.

You will have lunch either along the way or at the lodge, depending on arrival time. After lunch, check in to your lodge, settle in, and relax.

Day 2: Game Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early breakfast, depart at 7:00 AM for a morning game safari within Queen Elizabeth National Park. Expect to see the Big Five, including buffalo, elephants, and lions, along with other mammals such as giant forest hogs, bushbucks, kobs, hyenas, and waterbucks.

In the afternoon, prepare for a lunch cruise along Kazinga Channel, where you will witness large concentrations of elephants, hippos, buffalos, and crocodiles. The channel is also home to a variety of bird species, including the rare shoebill. After the boat tour, enjoy a short evening game drive, then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kalinzu Forest & Drive to Kisoro

After an early breakfast, depart around 6:00 AM for chimpanzee tracking in Kalinzu Forest, where you will encounter man’s closest cousins in their natural habitat. Observe these fascinating primates as they play, swing through trees, and forage for food.

After the trek, embark on a scenic drive to Kisoro, enjoying the lush landscapes along the way. Stop in Kabale for lunch, then continue to Kisoro, arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga & Drive to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up at 7:00 AM and drive to Mgahinga National Park for registration and a briefing about your gorilla trekking adventure.

You will then drive to the trekking start point at the base of the Virunga Mountains, accompanied by armed game rangers. The trek into the jungle in search of mountain gorillas may take 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorilla family you visit and your trekking ability.

After the trek, return to your guide at the base of the Virunga volcanic mountains and continue to Lake Bunyonyi, Africa’s deepest crater lake (900 m). Bunyonyi means “place of little birds”, offering serene views and birdlife.

Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 5: Bird Watching, Boat Ride & Visit Batwa People Village

After breakfast, at 9:00 AM, embark on a cultural walk along the southwestern shores of Lake Bunyonyi, visiting local villages. Here, the Batwa pygmies often travel from Rwanda to sell their produce at the market in Hakekuba, providing a unique cultural experience.

Return to your hotel for lunch, then enjoy a boat ride in the afternoon, capturing photographs of the birds and scenery around the lake.

In the evening, relax at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and spend the night overlooking the serene waters of Lake Bunyonyi.

Day 6: Drive Back to Kampala – End of the Tour

After breakfast at 8:00 AM, you will begin your drive back to Kampala or Entebbe, depending on your post-tour plans. Along the way, you will stop again at the Equator Line for photo opportunities, souvenir shopping, or simply to relax before continuing your journey.

You will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your 6-day adventure safari in Uganda.
