Day 1: Travel to Bwindi

Depart Kampala (or point of origin) early morning and drive southwest towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Enjoy scenic views en route and stop in Mbarara town for lunch. Arrive at Bwindi in the afternoon. Settle into your lodge, have dinner, and overnight in Bwindi.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trek & Batwa Community Walk

After an early breakfast, head to the gorilla tracking briefing at park headquarters and embark on your first trek in search of mountain gorillas. The trek may last 2 to 6 hours depending on their location. After this magical golden hour with the gorillas, return to the lodge, refresh, and in the afternoon join a community walk to meet the Batwa people—learn about their traditions, enjoy their song and dance. Overnight in your lodge.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trek & Move to Lake Bunyonyi

Rise early again for a second gorilla trekking experience—but this time aiming to see a different gorilla family. After your encounter, depart Bwindi and travel to Lake Bunyonyi. Upon arrival, check into lakeside accommodation (e.g. Acadia Cottages or Bunyonyi Overland Camp). Relax, enjoy dinner, and soak up the lake views.

Day 4: Lake Bunyonyi & Return to Kampala

After breakfast, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi, taking in the scenery of islands and terraced hills. Later pack and begin your return journey to Kampala. Stop for lunch and photo stops along the way. Arrive in Kampala (or the airport) in the afternoon or evening—this marks the end of your safari.

Transport
Travel in a 4×4 safari vehicle with pop-up roof, guided by an English-speaking professional driver.

Trekking Notes

Gorilla & chimpanzee permits included (UWA-issued).
Treks last 2–6 hours, depending on primate location.
Fitness level: moderate, with some uphill forest trekking.

Best Time to Visit
Dry seasons (June–September & December–February) are best for trekking, but safaris run year-round.

What to Pack
Hiking boots, rain jacket, long trousers, insect repellent, gloves, and a reusable water bottle.
