Top Safari Destinations in Tanzania

Serengeti National Park

No other place on earth captures the spirit of Africa quite like the Serengeti. Famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, this UNESCO World Heritage Site hosts over two million animals moving across the plains in search of fresh grazing. Witness thrilling predator hunts, golden sunsets, and dramatic wildlife encounters year-round.

Ngorongoro Crater

Often called “Africa’s Garden of Eden,” the Ngorongoro Crater is a natural amphitheater teeming with wildlife. Lions, elephants, rhinos, and flamingos coexist within the crater’s 600-meter-deep walls — making it one of the best places in Africa for game viewing in a compact, stunning landscape.

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire is Tanzania’s hidden gem, known for its vast elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and peaceful atmosphere. During the dry season, thousands of animals gather around the Tarangire River, creating spectacular photographic moments.

Lake Manyara National Park

Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara offers a unique mix of ecosystems — from dense forests to shimmering waters filled with flamingos. The park is renowned for its tree-climbing lions, one of Tanzania’s most iconic sights.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Standing tall at 5,895 meters, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and the world’s tallest free-standing peak. Climbing Kilimanjaro is a once-in-a-lifetime challenge that rewards you with breathtaking views, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts and icy glaciers at the summit.

Zanzibar Island

After your safari, unwind on Zanzibar’s pristine beaches. This tropical paradise offers white sands, crystal-clear waters, and a rich cultural heritage. Explore the narrow alleys of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or visit spice plantations that gave Zanzibar its nickname — The Spice Island.

Best Time to Visit Tanzania

Tanzania is a year-round destination, but your experience depends on what you want to see:

  • June to October (Dry Season): Best for classic safaris — clear skies, minimal rain, and excellent wildlife visibility. Ideal for the Great Migration and Kilimanjaro climbs.

  • November to May (Green Season): Lush landscapes, newborn animals, and vibrant birdlife. Great for photographers and travelers seeking fewer crowds and lower rates.

  • Safaris are available all year round.

Visa & Entry Requirements

Most visitors to Tanzania require a visa.

  • Visa on Arrival: Available for many nationalities at airports and border crossings.

  • eVisa: Travelers can also apply online through the official Tanzania Immigration website before arrival.

  • Passport Requirements: Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months from your date of entry, with at least two blank pages.

Visitors from East African Community (EAC) countries may enter using national IDs or valid travel documents.

Currency & Payments

  • Local Currency: Tanzanian Shilling (TZS).

  • Accepted Currencies: US Dollars are widely accepted in hotels, lodges, and national parks (preferably notes printed after 2006).

  • Credit Cards: Accepted in most lodges and major towns, though smaller shops prefer cash.

  • ATMs: Available in major cities such as Arusha, Dar es Salaam, and Moshi.

Nturo Safaris recommends carrying some cash in USD and Tanzanian Shillings for tips, souvenirs, and small purchases.
